The week of pain
Quite possibly going to be the shitest work week ever this week. Steve, whom i work with, has the week off as he decided taking the week off as annual leave for his 30th birthday was a good idea. Russell, the IT manager i report to is also away for another fortnight. Not so much an issue as he is a manager type person so consequently doesnt do any work. However this week is the week before we move sites so I have to pack his office which is pretty much packed, pack our work area, pack up the remaining servers etc all whilst providing the standard help desk and technical support. Oh there is also making sure a particular system is running correctly which unfortunately runs on a vax, not those nifty vaccuum cleaners but something slightly less powerful and useful. Then there is the fun of chasing up telstra for bdsl connections between sites, the pabx people and telstra for putting in phones at the other site, the cabling guy for getting the cabling redone, the movers for moving printers. Not to mention decomissioning a few servers, and migrating sql 6.5 from an nt4 box running on an alpha to a dual xeon windows 2003 based system running sql 2000. Hopefully my work will come to my aid on that one as sql is not my strong point. Emailed our sql administrator and got a response back saying eeesh i dont know how to do any of that. Resulted in me politely for once informing my manager that if the sql guy couldnt do it what the hell chance am i going to have. Pretty sucky i am sure i could work it out but i hate how people get paid extra to certify in particular products and just because the product is older then what they are used to suddenly try and palm it off to someone who has no experience in said area.

So yeah in summary this week is going to most likely be teh pain. Have to house sit parents house wed-friday, oh and i just realised i am on call. Yaaaaaaaaay!
